Google Gboard’s AI-Enabled Feature Helps You Check Your Text for Errors

Earlier this year at Google I/O 2023, it was clear that the company plans to double down on its generative AI goals by adding new AI-centric features to its product lineup.

Now, the search giant has rolled out a new “Proofreading” feature for beta users of Gboard’s Android keyboard. The feature, as reported by 9to5Google, is currently available as of Gboard version 13.4 and appears in the Gboard toolbar.

As the name suggests, the feature exists to proofread text for spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors. Users can do that with just a tap, Google says. Google also notes that in order to proofread your text, it needs to send the text to itself and process it to suggest grammar and spelling improvements.

So if you don’t want to share your text data with Google, it’s best to avoid this feature. But honestly, this feature can help people quickly spot errors in their text using generative AI without having to switch to another app like Google’s own Bard, or another generative AI-based chatbot like ChatGPT, or even an old one. grammar correction software.

As for availability, it’s not clear when a wide rollout could happen, but since the feature is already available to beta users, a full rollout might not be too far ahead and could be rolled out soon.

In related news, Google released new design features for Google Keep. This allows users to format their notes in different ways to better organize them. Users can edit and emphasize your text by bolding, underlining, italicizing and using heading styles.
