Instagram Tests Out Story Targeting for Multiple Audience Lists

Instagram is currently experimenting with a new feature for Stories, the vertical, full-screen photos and videos that vanish after a day. This feature allows users to share posts with personalized smaller audience lists, apart from Close Friends. Although still in the testing phase, the announcement suggests that the release of this feature is imminent.

The announcement came from Instagram CEO Adam Mosser, who said in an Instagram post: “Today we started testing your ability to share your stories to multiple audience lists. This allows you to share stories with smaller groups and have more control over who sees your story. As a frequent user of Close Friends, I’m pretty excited to be able to create additional lists for the people in my life.

Instagram Stories to get the new feature

For the longest time, Instagram users have been asking for a feature so they can share stories with smaller circles of friends and stakeholders. Although Instagram has added options for users to block a certain message from certain friends or share it in the Close Friends circle, until now users have not had the option to create different lists for different messages.

This can often be frustrating if you have multiple circles of friends from different parts of your life on Instagram and don’t want to share messages intended for one group with others. For example, if you have a group of friends with whom you share your cooking hobby and want to share messages intended for them, you cannot do so unless you add them to Close Friends and remove everyone else.

However, thanks to this feature, this is no longer a problem, as Instagram will soon allow users to add as many lists as they want and they can quickly select one when sharing stories. There is currently no set date for when the feature will be rolled out, but it is expected to arrive next month.
