Mozilla enters the AI race with a new startup: All the details

Mozilla, developer of the Firefox Internet browser, has launched a new startup called Mozilla.ai, which the company hopes will “build a trusted and independent open source artificial intelligence ecosystem.”

The company said it will initially invest $30 million to build this new startup.

“Mozilla.ai’s vision is to make it easy to develop reliable artificial intelligence products. We build things and hire / collaborate with people who share our vision: artificial intelligence with willpower, accountability, transparency and openness at its core. Mozilla.ai will be a space outside of big tech and academia where like-minded founders, developers, researchers, product managers and builders can come together,” Mozilla CEO and Mozilla.ai director Mark Surman said in a blog post. .

Furthermore, the company noted that this group of people working together can turn the tide to create an independent, decentralized and trusted AI ecosystem – a true counterbalance to the status quo.

The initial focus of the new startup Mozilla.ai is on tools that make generative artificial intelligence safer and more transparent, as well as more human-centered recommendation systems that do not provide false information or undermine the company’s well-being.

Later this year, the company mentioned that it will announce more initiatives, partners and events that people can participate in.

In December of last year, Mozilla completed the acquisition of US-based virtual spaces and events startup Active Replica to bolster its metaverse strategy.

Mozilla acquired the startup as it builds Hubs, the company’s virtual reality (VR) collaboration platform.
