Report Suggests Apple iPad Mini 7 May Not Feature 120Hz ProMotion Display

Apple is said to be releasing its seventh generation iPad mini soon. Ahead of the launch, a new leak has hinted that the iPad Mini 7 model may not feature a 120Hz ProMotion display.

“According to Twitter account @Tech_Reve, the iPad mini 7 ‘still doesn’t have 120Hz,’ and only the A-series processor is expected to get the upgrade,” MacRumors reported.

According to a report last year, a leak on Korean forums suggested that Apple was testing a Samsung-supplied display for the upcoming iPad mini that would allow for a refresh rate of up to 120Hz, but no such model is forthcoming, and Apple’s plans for the iPad mini are still unclear.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported earlier this year that an iPad mini upgrade with a slight “spec bump.” As recently as August, a leaker known as “ShrimpApplePro” also claimed that a seventh-generation iPad mini was in the works at Apple, and said he’s seen evidence that at least one new iPad model is coming this year.

According to a DigiTimes report last month, Apple plans to release a small iPad in the fourth quarter, while 9to5Mac said just last week that its sources believe the iPad mini 7 will be released soon, MacRumors said.

Leaks suggested that a chip upgrade might be the most likely feature of the new iPad mini. The sixth-generation iPad mini currently includes the A15 Bionic chip, while the new iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro use the A16 and A17 Pro chips, respectively.

A minor technical glitch could also include updates to the front and rear cameras, which might bring features like the Photonic Engine to the iPad for the first time.

Apple hasn’t updated the ‌iPad Air‌ since March 2022, so it’s been over a year since the last update. As for the ‌iPad mini‌, it hasn’t been updated since September 2021, even though it’s not a tablet that Apple regularly updates, MacRumors said.
