Rumored Release of AirPods Max and AirPods 3 Expected in 2024

The Cupertino-based technology giant Apple is said to be planning major changes to the AirPods range in 2024. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the iPhone manufacturer will launch the new AirPods Max and AirPods 3 next year and the AirPods Pro in 2025 with a new design and major improvements in sound quality.

When AirPods are updated, Apple will stop selling the older second-generation and third-generation models and instead offer two fourth-generation models at different price points, MacRumors reports.

The report suggested that both fourth-generation AirPods models will look like a cross between the current AirPods and ‌AirPods Pro‌ models. The higher-end version of the standard AirPods comes with active noise cancellation, a feature that has so far been limited to the AirPods Pro and AirPods Max models.

According to Gurman, the fit will be improved, but it is unclear if Apple plans to add silicone ear tips. As for the case, it gets speakers for Find My alerts, like the current AirPods Pro, and a USB-C charging port. ‌AirPods Max‌ includes a USB-C port for charging purposes instead of a Lightning port, and Apple is also introducing new colors. No other significant features are currently expected.

In 2025, Apple plans to update ‌AirPods Pro‌ with a new design, a faster chip, and possibly hearing health features. While there is no specific release date for the 2024 and 2025 AirPods upgrades, Apple usually releases them in the second half of the year, around the same time as new iPhone releases.

According to Gurman, the AirPods will be released “later next year” and the ‌AirPods Max‌ will be released “late next year.”

Meanwhile, Apple recently confirmed that it will release new Macs, iMacs and more at an event on October 30th before the end of the month.

Apple’s event invite includes the tagline Scary Fast, hinting that the company could unveil an all-new M3-series chip that will launch with new MacBooks and even iMacs.
