Samsung hints at upcoming release of ‘Galaxy Ring’ smart wearable
During the closing segment of Samsung’s Galaxy S24 launch event, the company unveiled a short teaser for the Galaxy Ring, confirming long-standing rumors about the device’s development at the South Korean tech giant.
It’s important to note that Samsung has only released a short teaser of the product, so officially we can only talk about its appearance at the moment. In the teaser video, we can see that it has a set of sensors in a typical ring shape, similar to the Oura Ring, with a black finish.
Although there is no official information about the product features, Samsung decided to tease the Galaxy Ring segment with improved health monitoring and how it aims to create a better user experience for users through the Galaxy Health app. However, the Samsung Galaxy Ring is said to be primarily a health tracker, and its reveal right after a big health segment may not be a coincidence.
Additionally, Samsung’s official promo video for its new health tracking features makes it clear that the Galaxy Ring is going to be a health-focused device. At the end of the video, two characters talk about “life-changing progress” through health choices, and then one of the characters says, “I wonder what’s next,” as they look at the horizon with the ring. like the sun shining through. This suggests that the Galaxy Ring will be a health-focused device, unlike the McClear Smart Ring we reported on last year, which can be used to make payments on the go.
Additionally, recent reports also say that Samsung may include advanced health monitoring features, such as the ability to take EKG readings and blood oxygen measurements via a photoplethysmography sensor.
We don’t know when the Galaxy Ring will be released, what features it will have, or how much it will cost. But given that Samsung has reportedly been developing it since mid-2023 (via The Elec ), it could still be a while. However, Samsung holds two big events every year — one for its S-series smartphones and one for its Galaxy Watches and Z-series foldable phones — so it’s possible we’ll hear more about the ring later this year for the company’s foldable phones.
