Say Goodbye to Tumblr Post Plus: Here’s What You Need to Know

In July 2023, Tumblr introduced a new design to enhance content discovery and simplify page creation, citing user feedback as the driving force behind the changes. Continuing its commitment to user input, the platform has now decided to discontinue Tumblr Post Plus subscriptions. These subscriptions enabled creators to share exclusive content with paying subscribers. The company has announced that this feature will be phased out by January 2024.

Posting on their official blog, Tumblr said, “We originally launched Post+ to uplift and support the huge number of amazing creators here on Tumblr… Well, it didn’t work out the way we hoped. We’ve heard your feedback and monitored usage, and after much consideration we’ve decided to remove Post+ from Tumblr.

The Post Plus subscription was launched in 2021 in the US as a beta feature. It’s similar to Instagram and X’s (formerly Twitter) subscription, where users pay extra to view special content and participate in special events.

Tumblr Post Plus will be disabled

The platform has also shared a timeline for phasing out the Tumblr Post Plus subscription. According to the post, users will no longer be able to enable Post Plus on their blogs after December 1st. However, the current Post Plus content will be available until the end of this year.

At the beginning of 2024, the platform will remove the possibility to create new Post Plus content and the existing content will be marked as private. From there, it’s up to each creator to decide if they want to publish those posts. Subscribers will also not be billed from January. Those who have placed an order through in-app purchases on an iOS device must cancel the order manually to avoid being charged.

Tumblr also announced that while Post Plus will be retired, creators will still be able to enable the Tipping feature, through which subscribers can voluntarily donate content to the creator. Giving tips does not affect the visibility of blogs.
