Snapchat reaches over 200 million monthly active users in India

Visual messaging app Snapchat has crossed the 200 million monthly active user mark in India, with 120 million of them viewing content on the platform, parent company Snap Inc said on Tuesday.

At the event, the company announced the launch of an experimental AI-powered chatbot customized for Snapchat, My AI, which can recommend birthday gift ideas, plan a long weekend trip or even suggest a recipe for dinner.

“Snapchat reaches over 200 million monthly active users in India,” Snap Inc said in a statement.

The visual messaging app has more than 750 million monthly active users worldwide, accounting for 90 percent of users aged 18-24.

“I’m excited to join Snap at a time when the momentum of our Native American community has never been stronger. We see incredible potential for partners, creators, and brands to build communities and businesses on Snapchat, and we couldn’t be more excited about our future.”

Snap said more than 120 million Snapchatters in India now watch content from Stories, Spotlight (user-generated content) and partner content on the app. According to the company’s internal data, Snapchatters in India play with augmented reality (AR) lenses more than 50 billion times a month. , and more than 85 percent of Snapchatters use the lenses for visual expression during the festive months in India.

The company has started partnering with merchants in India to build a local e-commerce ecosystem on top of its augmented reality enabled app in the country.

“As the Snapchat community continues to grow in India, Snap is building its team and ramping up operations by hiring in various roles to better serve the Indian Snapchatter community,” the statement said.
