Sony Bravia TV Users Can Now Make Zoom Calls from Home Comfortably

The Zoom for TV app on Google Play will be supported by Sony Bravia TVs, making them the first hardware to do so. Even though many companies are calling their employees back to the office, those who continue to work from home or have hybrid arrangements will soon be able to attend virtual meetings from the comfort of their living rooms. This announcement comes after Apple’s WWDC 2023 announcement that FaceTime will be available on Apple TV (via mounted iPhones) later this year.

Bravia TVs don’t have built-in webcams, so you’ll need to purchase a Bravia Cam for the setup to work. In addition to enabling Zoom calls, the $200 add-on can adjust sound and picture settings based on your location and distance from the TV. It also lets you control the TV with hand gestures without picking up the remote, enables a proximity alert that detects when kids are sitting too close (as they tend to do), and adds a power-saving mode that dims the screen if no one is watching.

Sony says the Zoom for TV app will be available for Bravia TVs from “early summer.” Shusuke Tomonaga, the company’s director of product design for Bravia, said: “This partnership allows our customers to enjoy more realistic video communication on the big TV screen in the living room, allowing them to be more connected with the people they care about. Whether they are working from home, studying remotely or just catching up with friends and family.”
