Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw Predicts India to be a Major 6G Contributor by 2023 with Google for India

The Google for India 2023 event, which focused on Google’s users and partners in India, concluded on October 19. During the event, Google unveiled various services and initiatives tailored for the Indian market, such as the introduction of locally manufactured Pixel phones, starting with the Pixel 8 series. Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, played a significant role in the event and discussed India’s advancements in 6G technology during a fireside chat.

During the fireside chat, Vaishnaw was asked about his views on India being one of the two largest 5G ecosystems in the world, even though it was launched just a year ago. Reinforcing India’s position, he said, “India now exports complex telecom components to 14 countries, including the US”.

Not stopping there, he also highlighted India’s preparations towards 6G. Vaishnaw said, “India will be one of the biggest contributors to 6G. You already have 200 patents related to 6G. When 6G is introduced in 2029, India will play a major role.

In addition to this, he asked questions on many different topics. On Google developing a deep partnership with India and Indian Pixel smartphone manufacturing, he said, “It’s a very good initiative. The component ecosystem is developing rapidly in India. On India’s semiconductor ecosystem, Vaishnaw said, “Semiconductors are a very important part of India’s digital strategy. Nearly 50,000 designers in India design semiconductor chips.

Rick Osterloh, Google’s vice president of devices and services, who also launched the Made by Google event this year and announced the Pixel 8 series, was also part of the fireside chat. Adding to Vaishnaw’s comments, he said, “The heart of the Pixel smartphone is the Tensor chip. I believe artificial intelligence is going to change computing, and Tensor will help us bring that to Pixel phones. We have significant engineering work in Bengaluru on the Tensor chipset. Another way to help Indians.” consumers and the economy through planning and education.

On AI, Osterloh said, “AI is making mobile computing more accessible and efficient. We strive to be at the forefront of the AI revolution with apps like Google Bard, Google Workspace and Pixel devices.
