Vimeo Launches AI-Powered Video Editing Tools for Novices

Vimeo has recently introduced its own AI-based tools that aim to simplify the video editing process for creators. The company recognizes that many individuals lack the necessary skills, time, or resources to create and edit videos effectively, and these features are designed to overcome these obstacles.

Perhaps the most useful of the three new AI tools is a text-based video editor that can automatically remove long pauses and parts of video with filler words like “um” and “ah” with a single click. Users can also easily delete any part of the video by searching for specific words in the transcript generated by the tool and then clicking delete. If they want to create short clips for social media, they can search for a specific word in the transcript, highlight and right-click on the word, phrase, or paragraph, then select “keep this only.”

Vimeo has also released a script generator that can conjure up the perfect script based on a text prompt the user writes, the length of the intended video, and their chosen “tone” (such as confident, funny, or casual). According to TechCrunch, it runs on OpenAI’s GPT technology, which is made part of the editing suite via API. Finally, the company has introduced an on-screen teleprompter that can display scripts at user-set font size and tempo. It can help creators stay on script and maintain eye contact with the camera.

All three tools will be available in July as part of Vimeo’s Standard and Pro subscription plans. While users can test them out as part of a seven-day trial period for these plans, they’ll ultimately have to pay at least $20 per month (when billed annually) to continue using them.
