WhatsApp Launches Mac App with Group Video Calls for up to Eight People

Mac users can now join the party and enjoy their own dedicated app for WhatsApp, several months after the release of the Windows desktop client. The official launch of the client, which had been in beta since January, allows users to participate in WhatsApp group calls on their Mac for the very first time.

WhatsApp for Mac supports up to eight people in video calls and up to 32 in audio-only chats. You can jump into a group call after it’s started, view your call (and chat) history, and receive notifications about incoming calls even when the WhatsApp client isn’t open. Sharing files should also be easy, as you can simply drag and drop them into the conversation.

The WhatsApp team has spent some time ensuring that the service supports end-to-end encryption (E2EE) across multiple devices with cross-platform sync. So it’s no surprise that WhatsApp for Mac includes E2EE protection for your chats and calls. The app is available on the WhatsApp website and will soon arrive on the Mac App Store.
