YouTube Warns Users of New Email Scam: Everything You Need to Know

Billions use YouTube to watch videos and play their favorite songs. But this makes the platform very lucrative for scammers, and the app is now warning its users about a new phishing attack using YouTube’s name.

YouTube has noticed many people receiving scam emails from fake YouTube email id. It has warned users not to click on the links provided in such messages and also not to download any attachments you see in the email.

According to the platform, people are receiving scam emails from no-reply@youtube.com, which is just a phishing attack against the user. YouTube has begun investigating these attacks, and the platform has shared a list of tips to help you avoid being duped by a phishing attack.

What is a phishing attack?

This form of attack is basically used by sending a fake email that claims to be from an official channel or a reputable company. The whole motive behind phishing is to steal confidential information, such as passwords, which can help an attacker steal money or gain access to personal information that they can use to exact a ransom.

How to recognize a scam email?

YouTube says that attackers have started using sophisticated measures to send these emails, so you need to be careful about the content of the email and the sender to avoid falling into the trap.

– The sender of the message looks genuine, but it is clear from the ID that it is a scam email. For example, you may receive an email from a gmail.com account, but make sure there are no typos in the front of the account, which is usually a sign that it’s a fake email.

– The content provided in the email usually has a link or attachment that it asks you to click or download

– Make sure that the sender’s name and email ID are the same

– Hover over the attached link to see if it displays the correct URL

– Never share passwords or YouTube information via email with anyone.

The best way to protect your YouTube account is to enable two-factor authentication, so that an attacker needs not only your account username and password, but also OTP verification to bypass the page’s security settings.
