Android Threads App Experiences 79% Decrease In Usage After One Month

Threads App: Meta-owned microblogging app Threads app has lost 79 percent of its daily active Android users, according to the latest data. According to analytics firm Likeweb, the Threads Android app peaked at 49.3 million daily active users worldwide on July 7, but the app’s daily active users fell to 10.3 million on August 7.

Initially, daily active users on Threads spent an average of about 14 minutes globally, with significantly higher engagement in the US, reaching nearly 21 minutes on July 7. By August 7, however, this time had dropped to just three minutes.

For comparison, X (formerly Twitter) has over 100 million daily active Android users. They usually spend about 25 minutes on the platform every day, the data shows.

According to IANS, the initial excitement didn’t last long for Threads, Meta Platform’s answer to the app formerly known as Twitter. Threads had a huge launch in early July, fueled by almost immediate adoption of the new text-based social app by Instagram users.

“Threads’ boom in active users didn’t last, though. The app’s active user count grew in the first couple of days when new users were busy checking the app and seeing who else was on it, but it quickly evaporated,” Samanweb noted.

In related news, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently announced new updates to the recently launched microblogging platform Threads. It includes features like “Share message directly to Instagram DM”, a new mention button and custom alt text for photos and videos.

“New updates to Threads this week: share directly to your Instagram DMs, custom alt text for photo/video, New Mention button to easily mention an account in your thread,” Zuckerberg wrote on the Threads app.

Meta has also introduced Threads support for rel=me links to help authenticate users on platforms like Mastodon. People can now add your Threads profile link on supported platforms to verify their identity.
