Apple MacBook Pro OLED Display Launch Delayed

Cupertino-based technology giant Apple is said to be developing OLED screens for MacBook Pro models. However, a new report has revealed that Apple’s first MacBook Pro models with OLED screens are still at least three years away from release.

According to Ross Young, CEO of research firm Display Supply Chain Consultant, it will be a few years before Apple’s supply chain partners build production lines to mass produce laptop-sized OLED panels.

That’s the main reason why Young doesn’t expect MacBook Pro models with OLED screens to hit the market until 2026 or 2027. He’s shared that time frame before. According to MacRumors, Young has been a reliable source of display-related information for upcoming Apple products for several years and has a very accurate track record.

Compared to current MacBook Pro models with LCD displays, benefits of OLED technology include increased brightness, higher contrast ratio and deeper blacks, improved power consumption, longer battery life, and more, MacRumors reports.

The analyst also revealed that the next-generation iPad Pro models coming to the market in 2024 will also be equipped with OLED screens. The first iPad Air and iPad mini models equipped with OLED screens are not expected to hit the market until 2026. He also confirmed that these devices will remain equipped with LCD screens next year.

Another report from Omdia said that Apple could consider switching the iPad Air and iPad mini to OLED panels starting in 2026. This change is expected to follow the integration of Apple’s OLED panel in the iPad model, which may enter the market in 2024.

According to the publication, the OLED panels of the said iPad Pro could be supplied by LG Display and Samsung. In addition, the 12.9-inch iPad Pro Mini with LED backlight will be replaced with OLED technology going forward.

While nothing of the sort has been confirmed, industry insiders including Mark Gurman have previously claimed the same for the 2024 iPad Pro model.
