TV Sales Surge in India Ahead of 2023 World Cup, Retailers Struggle to Keep Up With Demand – Report

With the ICC ODI Cricket World Cup underway, cricket fans across the country are glued to their screens to catch the latest cricket happenings in India. Now, a large section of the Indian population enjoys cricket on their TV screens. And this is why – despite the Shradhh rituals going on – cricket fans across the country have boosted sales in India.

For those who don’t know – as per tradition – during the Shraddh rituals, Hindus avoid buying new material items like electronics and televisions, but this time, that hasn’t stopped Indian shoppers from rushing to buy television screens.

As reported by The Times of India, brands like Xiaomi, LG, Sony and Panasonic have seen huge demand and are reportedly struggling to keep up with the demand.

Additionally, online retailers are also hosting festive sales in India offering bank discounts and various offers to customers and this may have further impacted sales.

“The Indian team has emerged as a top contender, so the excitement knows no bounds as we head into the India-Pakistan match on Saturday,” Gireesan Gopi, business head of home entertainment at LG India, said in The Times of India. .

He further added that their sales of 55 inch and above TVs have increased by 2-2.5 times compared to last year’s shradh period.

Sony India MD Sunil Nayyar also had a similar view with TOI. He said larger screen models, including 75-inch and 85-inch screens, are becoming popular with the Cricket World Cup.

That being said, if you’re shopping for a new TV, we recommend that you properly research different display technologies such as OLED, QLED, and traditional IPS LCD panels, and research what you want from a panel.

For example, as good as OLED panels are, they may not be suitable for overly bright rooms, and if you want a more contrast-rich image, only OLED panels make sense. So, do your due diligence before buying.
