How to Enable Google Meet’s Companion Mode for Easy Check-Ins

Google has introduced a new feature to improve virtual meetings. To tackle the issue of confusion caused by participants joining meetings from conference rooms, Google has launched the companion mode check-in feature in Google Meet. Currently, individuals joining meetings from conference rooms are identified by the room name instead of their own names. The new feature will address this problem and enhance the virtual meeting experience.

How does it work? Google explains in a blog post that the Partner Mode feature allows users to conveniently log into a specific conference room using their personal devices. By using this feature, virtual meeting participants can now easily recognize and recognize the people who are present in the conference room, instead of simply seeing the general name of the room. In addition, by activating a personal video screen in partner mode, participants can present their own video feed alongside the name of the meeting room during the presentation.

Using Google Meet’s partners without signing in feature

Google says this feature is ON by default. However, system administrators can be disabled at the OU level for specific hardware or users. If enabled by an administrator, all Google Meet users can use it.

You can sign in in partner mode at meet.google.com. You can connect your laptop to a Google Meet meeting in partner mode using a meeting invitation or a short link. In the meeting invitation, click Join, and then under Other join options on the meeting start page, select Use partner mode.

In addition to this, you can use a short link. Type this link into your browser – g.co/companion. On the Meet home screen, select a meeting or enter the meeting code.

When will you get this feature?

Google has already started rolling out the new Companion mode login feature in Google Meet starting June 22. However, it may take 15 days or more for the feature to appear.
