All entities now eligible to register for M2M, WPAN, WLAN via SaralSanchar portal, says Telecom dept.

All entities involved in Machine-to-Machine (M2M) and Wireless Personal Area Network, as well as Wireless Local Area Network (WPAN/WLAN) businesses, can now register for these services, as announced by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT).

DoT has said that non-compliance may result in removal or disconnection of telecom resources procured from authorized telecom licensees.

According to it, all business units involved in providing M2M services and providing WPAN/WLAN connections (companies, ministries, organizations, partnership firms, lifelong learning institutions, institutions, companies, holding companies, associations and foundations) are advised to register with the DoT. through a simple and transparent online process’ through the SaralSanchar portal.

Announcing that machine-to-machine (M2M) and wireless personal area network/wireless local area network (WPAN/WLAN) registration has been extended to all entities engaged in such businesses, the DoT said in a release that the entity includes corporations, ministries and partnerships.

It has been decided to expand the scope of registration in order to spread a standard-based and secure M2M/IoT ecosystem, the release states.

It also addresses the concerns of M2M service providers and WPAN/WLAN providers regarding M2M services related to interface with telecom service providers, KYC, security, encryption and other aspects.

“DoT is committed to ensuring the construction of a secure and innovative M2M/IoT (Internet of Things) landscape,” the release said.

The aim of the national digital communication policy is to create a robust digital communication infrastructure, enable next-generation technologies and ensure a comprehensive and harmonious approach to the utilization of new technologies such as M2M/loT.

“Having considered TRAI’s recommendations on ‘Frequencies, Roaming and Quality of Service (QoS) Requirements for M2M Communications’ and the views of stakeholders in the M2M industry, the Government has decided to issue guidelines for the Registration Process of M2M Service Providers (M2MSP) and WPAN/WLAN Access Providers For M2M services,” it added.
