FactShala launches video series to combat misinformation and educate the public

FactShala, a media literacy network, has launched an educational video series aimed at equipping individuals with practical skills and valuable resources to effectively discern between facts and fiction on the internet.

Published in multiple languages, the FactShala Ambassador Program video series partners with well-known Indian journalists to provide easy tips and tools to help users assess the credibility of online information and reach out to trusted sources.

In the initiative, DataLEADS-run FactShala has collaborated with the Poynter Institute’s MediaWise with the support of Google News.

“The launch of this project is a big step forward in accelerating the growth of media literacy in India. Every Indian should have access to high-quality and reliable information that empowers them to think critically about the information they consume, create and share every day,” said Syed Nazakat, Founder and CEO, DataLEADS.

Ritu Kapur, CEO and founder of The Quint, will act as the show’s first English-speaking ambassador and educate viewers on the skills and techniques needed to navigate the information ecosystem.

The topics of the video series include detecting misleading data visualizations, verifying manipulated images and deep fakes, using critical thinking techniques with the help of lateral reading, and identifying false information, the organizers said.
