Instagram Notes Now Includes Music Feature, Allowing Users to Share Songs They’re Enjoying

Since the introduction of the Notes feature on Instagram in December 2022, the platform has been exploring ways to enhance its appeal and functionality. Initially, the addition of a status update feature alongside Stories was deemed unnecessary and unlikely to gain traction. Nevertheless, the feature has gained momentum, prompting Instagram to introduce yet another exciting feature. Users can now include a 30-second snippet of their preferred song in their Instagram Notes.

Announcing the feature on the Meta channel on Instagram, Mark Zuckerberg said Tuesday: “You can now add 30-second clips of your favorite songs to your Instagram notes. Kudos to my daughters for smoothing out my taste in music.”

Song clips added to Instagram notes

This feature allows users to attach a 30-second clip of a song to Instagram notes. They can also add a short caption next to a song clip, either as context for the music or as a separate status update. Others can tap the song card to listen to a snippet.

In addition to this, Instagram is also adding a translation button to Notes so that users can understand status updates written in different languages.

Instagram notes are meant to be used as out-of-office messages because they only appear in the DM window. Only 60 characters will be limited, so it’s meant to be changed frequently and shared with a mini-update of the day that’s too small to post in the feed or even stories. The feature has grown in popularity among younger age groups who enjoy being updated with events throughout the day. As such, the ability to share the songs they are currently listening to is likely to be popular as well.

Instagram Notes isn’t the only text-based feature the company is investing in. Earlier this month, leaked images surfaced of a new Twitter-like app that Instagram is building.
