Instagram’s Potential Twitter Competitor Threads Could Launch on July 6 – Here’s What We Know

In recent months, there has been buzz surrounding Threads, a new app developed by Instagram, aiming to compete with Twitter. Leaked screenshots have shown that the app’s appearance will resemble Instagram, while its features will be comparable to those of Twitter. Similar to other emerging Twitter rivals like Bluesky and Mastodon, Threads is expected to be a decentralized platform. Excitingly, reports indicate that the app is set to launch on July 6, just two days from now.

The report comes from The Verge, which found an App Store listing mentioning that “Threads, an Instagram app” will be available for download on July 6. This information follows the Threads list on the Google Play Store, which briefly shared some basic information about the app. .

What is Instagram Threads

Basically, it’s a social media platform based on Instagram that focuses on limited text-based communication, just like Twitter. The platform is expected to be decentralized, meaning people can use a different app and still be on Threads. The official App Store description of the platform is as follows:

“Say more with Threads – Instagram’s text-based chat app

Threads is a place where communities come together to discuss everything from what’s important today to what’s trending tomorrow. Whatever you’re interested in, you can follow your favorite creators and connect directly with others who love the same things – or build a loyal following to share your ideas, opinions and creativity with the world.”

Instagram Thread will be released on the 6th. July

It should be noted that just because Threads is likely to appear on the App Store on July 6 and allow users to download, it may not be user-ready. Some reports have suggested that the service may be slow and gradual, and may initially be open in some areas.

Excitement around Threads is also high because Twitter owner Elon Musk recently announced that users will be limited to the number of tweets they can view per day. Verified accounts are limited to 8,000 tweets, while unverified accounts are limited to 800. New unverified accounts can only see 400 tweets per day. Musk called the change temporary and had explained that the move was made “to address extreme data scraping and system manipulation.”
