Instagram Users Can Now Save Reels To Their Device

Instagram Reels have emerged as a strong contender against TikTok, but it lacked a crucial feature that TikTok had already offered for a while – the option to download Reels and share them on various platforms.

Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, said on his Instagram broadcast that US users can now upload reels to their camera roll. And loading your reel is as easy as tapping the share icon and then tapping the Load button. Mosseri noted that all public reels are downloadable – unless users restrict the option in the settings.

The feature is expected to gradually expand to India and other countries in the near future. In the meantime, users can download reels using third-party apps and websites.

India in particular has a strong WhatsApp culture where short videos and images from various platforms such as Twitter and Instagram are widely shared. When the feature becomes available in India, it will surely bring joy to the Indian users.

However, according to TechCrunch, Mosseri has not clarified whether the uploaded reels have a watermark or not. For example, TikTok adds a watermark when you upload a video to share on other platforms or save it to your local gallery. The photo Mosser shared shows a faint watermark on the side of the loaded reel, so it’s likely loaded reels have watermarks.

In other news, Instagram is finally rolling out the Broadcast Channels feature globally. The feature is designed to create a deeper connection between creators and audiences, and the company is also introducing a new Partners feature that allows creators to invite other creators or followers to join their broadcast channel.
