‘Kentucky Route Zero: TV Edition’ to be Released on PS5, Xbox Series X and S

It is truly gratifying when a beloved game is finally available on your preferred gaming console. The recent case in point is the highly acclaimed Kentucky Route Zero: TV Version by Cardboard Computer, which will soon be released on the PS5 and Xbox Series X and S. Annapurna Interactive, the game’s publisher, has released a trailer in anticipation of its launch.

In 2013, Cardboard Computer first released Kentucky Route Zero, a “magical realistic adventure game” that focuses on a highway beneath a series of caves and the creatures that move through it. Four more shows over the next seven years as Kentucky Route Zero: TV Edition completes the series in an epic and rather moving conclusion. Both critics and players have praised the series for its visuals and storytelling.

ReturnByte spoke with the game’s developers when Kentucky Route Zero: TV Edition came out in 2020, and they reflected on the finale’s tragic yet full-circle nature. “Tragedy is not pessimistic,” said Jake Elliott. “A lot of literary tragedies or dramatic tragedies, at the end a character who has made all these terrible mistakes or has these terrible flaws… they usually have a moment where they take responsibility for it or somehow overcome it.” It’s a game that makes you feel at least something.

Kentucky Route Zero: TV Edition will be available for PS5 and Xbox Series X and S on August 17. Annapurna Interactive confirmed that the upgrade option will be available if you have already purchased the game on PS4 or Xbox One. Plus, there’s more to look forward to: Elliott and Co. confirmed last year that they’re working with Annapurna Interactive on another game that’s “fully animated.”
