Elon Musk to Auction Off Twitter Memorabilia

Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk is making headlines once again with his latest bold move. This time, he is putting up iconic Twitter artifacts for auction, following the platform’s recent rebranding as “X.” The auction, titled “Twitter Rebranding: Online Auction Featuring Memorabilia, Art, Office Assets & More!”, will feature an impressive collection of 584 lots. Alongside office assets, the auction will showcase unique items such as coffee tables, eye-catching bird cages, and artwork that gained viral fame.

A glimpse into Twitter’s past

The list is like a snapshot of Twitter’s eclectic history, as it includes a diverse collection of office furniture, desks and chairs to a DJ booth and enough instruments to outfit an entire band, according to a BBC report. Since purchasing the social media giant, Musk has implemented austerity measures that have resulted in thousands of job cuts at the company.

One intriguing piece is the original Twitter sign that still adorns the company’s San Francisco headquarters on 10th Street. The listing has a unique warning: “Bird is still installed on the side of the building. Buyer is responsible for hiring an SF licensed company with proper permits.” It’s a piece of tech history that may soon replace a new location.

Art enthusiasts will find themselves drawn to two oil paintings, each depicting iconic moments that defined Twitter’s journey. One features a star-studded selfie of Ellen Degeneres at the 2014 Oscars, while another captures the widely celebrated image that then-US President Barack Obama tweeted during his re-election in November 2012, which held the record for the most-liked tweet. at that time.

The melody of Twitter’s evolution

Music lovers will be delighted to find an impressive selection of musical equipment ranging from guitars to drum kits and amplifiers, not to mention a full DJ booth with controllers, mixers and speakers. According to renowned auction house Heritage Global Partners, the minimum bid for each fascinating lot is $25 (£19.70). Bidding is scheduled to begin on September 12 and the event will end just two days later.

At the same time, on a separate note, Twitter has started rewarding the creators of the platform with substantial payments. This change is part of X’s strategy, which aims to give content producers a share of advertising revenue. This incentive, which is available to X Premium (formerly Twitter Blue) subscribers worldwide, is already benefiting Indian content creators, with comments on accounts like ‘Gabbar’ and ‘Being Humour’ bolstering substantial earnings that run into lakhs.
