Mark Gurman Predicts iPads Will Not Be Released Until March 2024

The speculation about Apple updating its iPad lineup in late 2023 seems to be unlikely now. Throughout this year, Apple has introduced various new products, including the iPhone 15, Apple Watches, and the 15-inch MacBook Air. At the recent World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 5, the Cupertino-based tech giant even unveiled its first-ever spatial computer, the Vision Pro. However, the iPad remains unchanged and has not received any updates.

According to reports, 2023 could be the first year since its debut 13 years ago that the iPad is not expected to be updated.

New iPads in 2024

In his latest Power On newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said he doesn’t expect Apple to launch new iPads this year. Instead, Mac-related notifications are likely. But that doesn’t mean a new iPad isn’t coming. According to Gurman, Apple plans to launch up to three iPads in early 2024, preferably in March.

A few days ago, a report surfaced claiming that Apple could expand its iPad lineup by announcing new iPads on October 17th. Although that didn’t happen, the Cupertino-based tech giant announced a new and cheaper alternative to the Apple Pencil 2nd Generation.

So what could those iPads be? According to reports, the new iPad Mini, iPad Air and iPad 11th Gen could see the light of day. In terms of specs, the new iPad Air could finally get an M2 upgrade, while the iPad Mini could pack the A16 SoC, a chip that also powers the current iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, as well as last year’s iPhone 14 Pro.

So far, there are no plans to release an M3-powered iPad in the near future.

What about the new Macs?

Although the iPad is not scheduled to launch this year, the new Mac product will hit store shelves before Apple’s earnings call on November 2nd. It’s been well over 2 years since the iMac changed, but a new 24-inch iMac has been in the works for a while, and it’s possible that Apple will introduce it at the end of this month.
