Meta wants to compete on Twitter with its own social blogging app: what we know

Facebook parent Meta is reportedly building a Twitter-like social media app that will allow people to post text-based updates.

Citing sources, Platformer says the project is codenamed “P92” and will allow users to log in with existing Instagram credentials.

MoneyControl was the first to break this trend.

“We are exploring a separate decentralized social network for sharing text updates. We believe we have an opportunity for a separate space where content creators and public figures can share real-time updates about their interests,” the company said.

According to the report, Instagram head Adam Mosseri is leading the project.

According to the report, the product is still in its early stages and no release date has been set, but legal and regulatory teams have already begun looking into potential privacy issues with the app to address them before launch.

Additionally, several competing platforms have launched or gained traction in the months since Elon Musk took over Twitter — including Mastodon, Post.news, and T2.

In December of last year, Instagram introduced a new feature called Notes, which allows users to share short messages of up to 60 characters using only text and emoticons.

Earlier this month, Twitter founder and former CEO Jack Dorsey got back into the social media game with the release of his Twitter alternative called “Bluesky,” which is available in the Apple App Store in a testing phase.
