New WhatsApp beta update prevents users from taking screenshots of profile pictures; Find out more about the new feature

WhatsApp, a widely used messaging platform worldwide, is continuously improving user privacy through frequent updates. The company has recently rolled out a new feature in the WhatsApp beta app that prevents users’ profile pictures from being screenshotted, further demonstrating their commitment to prioritizing user privacy and security.

WhatsApp beta update

Earlier, WhatsApp had removed the ability for users to save or upload profile pictures of others, but now it has taken this a step further by introducing a mechanism to prevent screenshots from being taken completely. When users try to take a screenshot of the profile picture, they are greeted with a warning message stating that the action is prohibited due to app restrictions, reports WABetaInfo. The purpose of this added layer of protection is to prevent unauthorized users from taking and sharing profile pictures without permission.

It is important to note that WhatsApp currently does not notify users if someone tries to take a screenshot of their profile picture. Also, this feature is currently only available in the beta version of the app for Android users. It may take some time for the feature to be rolled out in the stable version of the app, which is used by billions of users worldwide.

While this update may provide a sense of security to some users, it’s important to understand that no security measure is foolproof. Despite not being able to take screenshots within the app, people can still take profile pictures using alternative methods, such as taking a photo with another device.

To further enhance privacy settings, WhatsApp users can edit their profile picture under Privacy Settings in the app’s Settings menu. By adjusting these settings, users can control who has access to their profile information, reducing the risk of unauthorized sharing.
