Telegram to Introduce Instagram-Style Stories Feature in the Coming Month

The CEO of Telegram, Pavel Durov, has announced the upcoming release of a ‘Stories’ feature, which is expected to be launched in early July.

“For years, our users have been asking us to implement Stories in Telegram. More than half of all feature requests we receive are related to stories,” Durov wrote on his Telegram channel.

Users can choose who sees their stories very specifically – everyone, just their contacts (with some exceptions), a select few contacts, or a list of close friends.

Users can also hide stories posted by any contact by moving them to the Hidden list in the Contacts section instead of the main screen.

In addition to photo and video editing tools, users can provide captions to their stories to add context or links and tag other people.

“Building on the success of Telegram’s video messaging, we’re adding the ability to send photos and videos taken with the front and rear cameras simultaneously,” Durov said.

In addition, users can choose when the story expires – after six, 12, 24 or 48 hours – or whether they want to display stories permanently on the profile page, each with its own privacy settings.

“Speaking of channels, they benefit from greater visibility and subscribers: when we enable the possibility to repost messages from channels to stories, it will be much easier to spread on Telegram,” added Durov.
