TRAFI to set up an AI spam filter to prevent fake calls and messages: Learn more

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) will introduce new rules from Monday (May 1) to combat fake and touting calls and messages that customers often receive. To achieve this, TRAI has mandated all telecom companies to include artificial intelligence (AI) spam filters in their call and SMS services.

This change comes as a relief to customers who have been receiving unwanted spam calls and messages on a daily basis. According to reports, telecom giants such as Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio have announced the launch of an AI filter service. Airtel has already made an official announcement about it, while Jio is aiming to roll out the service soon.

An AI filter helps customers avoid fake and promotional calls and messages, reducing fraudulent activity. TRAI has been trying to curb the problem of fake calls and messages, which is a major concern of customers. Fraudsters often cheat innocent customers with these means, causing them to lose their money.

To address this issue, TRAI has required telecom companies to stop advertising calls to 10-digit mobile numbers. In addition, the regulatory body is considering introducing a call identification feature that displays the caller’s photo and name on a mobile phone.

However, telecom companies such as Airtel and Jio are reportedly hesitant to adopt the technology due to privacy concerns. At the moment, there is no concrete information available on the matter. It’s worth noting that the implementation of an AI filter is the only rule that will be implemented on May 1 to prevent annoying calls and messages from reaching customers.

According to an ET report, Truecaller is likely to join hands with Airtel, Vi and Jio to curb spam messages and calls. Truecaller is expected to help customers avoid all commercial calls and fake messages.
