Truecaller Introduces AI-Based Call Screening Tool in India

The Truecaller app, which is popular among both Android and iOS smartphone users, is known for its spam detection services. In a bid to further simplify life for its users, the app has now introduced the Truecaller Assistant in India. This service, which was previously launched in Australia and the US in September, is finally being made available to Indian users.

Truecaller Assistant answers calls for you when you don’t want to answer them or when you don’t want to talk to a marketer or spammer. Truecaller noted that while Caller ID helps identify incoming calls, Assistant takes it a step further by not only answering calls but also interacting with callers.

As expected, Truecaller Assistant uses the company’s AI-based algorithms to enable call screening, but the service is currently only available to Android users.

Truecaller Assistant: How it works

If Truecaller Assistant is enabled, you can click “Assistant” to screen a call when you receive one. However, if you can’t or don’t want to answer the call, Assistant will answer it after a few rings.

Truecaller claims that when a call is routed to Assistant, it first greets the caller and then uses its text-to-speech technology to identify the caller and the reason for the call. Real-time information about the caller’s speech is then displayed on your device’s screen, allowing you to decide whether or not to answer the call.

Truecaller Assistant also offers 5 voices, real-time speech-to-text transcription, support for multiple languages, call recording, and custom greetings for unknown numbers.
