WhatsApp Introduces Ability to Edit Messages in Groups and Chats

WhatsApp, a meta-owned app, launched Communities last year, which allows users to bring separate groups together under a single umbrella known as a community. Since its launch, the instant messaging app has been working to improve the user experience by introducing new features and updates.

Now, a new report has revealed that the Meta-owned app is rolling out a feature to edit posts in community message boards. This feature allows users to edit and edit the content of messages they have previously sent, provided it is within 15 minutes of posting.

“After installing the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.18.16 update from the Google Play Store, some beta testers are now able to edit messages in community notification groups,” WABetaInfo, a website that tracks WhatsApp, reported.

According to the report, editing functionality is now available when opening the message menu in a community notification group. You need to share a new post in the community announcement group to see if it is possible to edit it with a new update.

Note that there is no limit to how often messages can be edited within 15 minutes of sending. Additionally, a message is always marked as “edited” when its content is changed. This is a clear indication that the message has been reviewed.

The report suggested that this feature is even more useful in community announcement groups.

“Typically, messages shared to this particular group are very important because they need to reach a large number of users. As a result, sharing a message in community notification groups where something is wrong can sometimes be quite serious. The editing feature provided by WhatsApp in this update gives community admins extra control in such situations” , WABetaInfo said.

The ability to edit messages in community notification groups is currently only available to select beta testers who have installed the latest updates to WhatsApp beta for Android from the Google Play Store.
