WSJ reports Apple’s intention to introduce fresh charges and limitations for downloads not from App Store

According to the Wall Street Journal, Apple intends to introduce additional charges and limitations as it prepares to permit the download of third-party software from sources other than its App Store.

The news comes months after the European Union enacted the Digital Markets Act (DMA) to target the market power of big tech companies and make it easier for people to move between competing services.

All Big Tech companies must complete the DMA by March 7th.

According to a WSJ report, Apple’s plan, which applies only in Europe, will allow users to download software to the iPhone without the App Store for the first time.

Meta announced plans to comply with the law on Monday, after the social media company said it would give users more choice in how they consume its services.
