Xbox Series X Console Skins to be Released, Featuring ‘Starfield’ and Camouflage Designs

For a while now, Sony has been providing personalized plates for the PlayStation 5, with their latest offering featuring a Spider-Man 2 design. Following suit, Microsoft has also joined the trend of customization, selling official wraps for the Xbox Series X, after previously giving away customized Xbox Series S units through contests.

In addition to two camo colors, Arctic Camo and Mineral Camo, a Starfield-inspired wrap is available. Pre-orders for scarves are now open. The $50 Starfield will ship to the US, Canada, and Europe on October 18th, while the $45 camo options will arrive in those regions on November 10th (though European fans will miss out on the Arctic option for now).

The Starfield wrap matches the themed controller and Xbox headset that went on sale recently as it prepares for its biggest game of the year. Bethesda’s next giant RPG comes out on September 6th, so you’ll have to wait several more weeks for the Starfield console bundle if you want to get into the game’s aesthetic.

The wraps consist of solid core panels with a “high-tech fabric finish”. They have a hook and loop system and a silicone pattern on the inside to keep them secure. Microsoft says it’s designed them to make sure they don’t affect performance — the company notes that the wraps even have little feet on the bottom to help maintain airflow.

Third-party companies like Dbrand (who previously ran into trouble with Sony over their PS5 skins) have long been selling custom skins for Xbox consoles. But this isn’t exactly the first time Microsoft has dabbled in console customization. The Xbox 360 had replaceable faceplates. However, the company later admitted that the idea failed.
