Amazon Introduces Passkeys Feature For iOS and Web Platforms
US tech giant Amazon has rolled out a new feature that allows customers to log into their account, which is both easier and more secure. You can now create a “password” in your Amazon settings, allowing you to use your face, fingerprint, or PIN to access your account in the same way as unlocking your device.
This feature is already available to all Amazon customers using web browsers. According to the company, password support is available to all Amazon customers using browsers and is gradually rolling out to the iOS Amazon Shopping app, with support coming soon to the Android Amazon Shopping app.
Passwords are more secure than traditional passwords because they cannot be easily written down or guessed, reducing the risk of accidentally sharing your password with a hacker.
Passwords do not require customers to remember a password or add a two-factor authentication code, but they do require a verified device.
Introduction
– Passwords can be set in Amazon settings, and on iPhone, iPad or Mac, logging into an Amazon account can be done with a Face ID or Touch ID scan when the feature is turned on.
– To enable it, go to My Account > Login & Security and select Configure next to Passwords.
Apple introduced support for identity keys in iOS 16 and macOS Ventura. Passwords work through a public key stored on a website server and combined with a private key stored on a specific device. On Apple devices, passwords are authenticated using Face ID or Touch ID, and the two keys must match for the user to log in.
Passwords are based on iCloud Keychain, which in turn requires two-factor authentication for added protection. Passwords are synchronized between all of the user’s iPhone, iPad and Mac devices, but can also be used on non-Apple devices via the QR code system.
