Apple is set to enhance AI capabilities with iOS 18 update: Explore potential AI features for your iPhone

According to a recent report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple’s upcoming iOS 18 will bring a variety of new AI features that do not depend on cloud servers. This decision demonstrates Apple’s dedication to improving user privacy and device performance by handling AI tasks directly on the device.

Gurman revealed in his Power On newsletter that iOS 18’s native AI features run entirely on the device, eliminating the need for cloud processing. This includes an extensive language model that supports new AI features, macrumors reports.

Artificial intelligence partnerships

While Apple plans to keep some cloud-based AI capabilities in partnership with providers like Google’s Gemini, the company is looking to prioritize on-device processing of its AI functions. Talks have reportedly taken place with technology giants such as Google, OpenAI and China’s Baidu about possible generative artificial intelligence partnerships.

While iOS 18 may not include Apple’s own ChatGPT-style chatbot, it remains uncertain whether Gemini or other chatbots will be integrated directly into the operating system. Analysts suggest that Apple is actively investing in AI servers, hinting at the possibility of introducing more in-house cloud-based AI capabilities in the future.

The upcoming iOS update is rumored to bring generative AI improvements to several Apple apps, including Spotlight search, Siri, Safari, Shortcuts, Apple Music, Messages, Health, Numbers, Pages, and Keynote. Earlier reports from Gurman suggest that this AI update will allow Siri to handle more complex queries and improve the auto-complete feature of the Messages app.

Let’s wait for the WWDC reveal

Apple enthusiasts can expect to learn more about iOS 18 and other software updates at the company’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), scheduled for May 10-14. June. With the growing importance of artificial intelligence in improving the user experience, Apple’s device AI approach to iOS 18 could be a significant step towards a smarter and more private digital ecosystem.
