Carl Pei is still not ready to confirm Nothing Phone (2) Hardware details: Expected price and more

Nothing Phone (2) will be launched in the next few months and the hype created by the company has already made it an eagerly awaited product on the market. After a positive response to the phone (1), Carl Pei and Co. are now moving into the flagship segment, and this week he has confirmed that the phone (2) will use the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset for its performance.

Most people reading this update are excited about the upcoming Nothing Phone, especially since it’s powered by a Snapdragon 8 series chip. Many of them have even suggested that Carl might take Nothing through the OnePlus growth path. In his post, Pei mentioned that his team is working to improve the performance of the Snapdragon chip and tune it with NothingOS to improve performance and camera capabilities.

He even explained his decision by choosing last year’s flagship SoC instead of picking the tab for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. “Sometimes the latest technology comes at a cost, which is not always justified from a user benefit point of view. Choosing Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 ensures that the Phone (2) remains available and offers a significantly better user experience compared to the Phone (1) version,” he added in the post.

Based on his statement, we can expect the phone (2) to be a significant upgrade over the phone (1), not just in terms of performance, but in terms of overall experience, which Pei seems to prioritize over specs. The company has already said that the Phone (2) will be launched in the US, which has a large iPhone market.

More than pricing, nothing needs to force people to use a product as an iPhone alternative, which is easier said than done. Outside of the US, there’s no need to be aggressive in pricing the phone (2) now that it uses an older SoC that’s now available in sub-Rs 40,000 phones.

In any case, it will be interesting to see how Nothing takes the leap into the flagship arena and shows its strength among established brands and still has its unique identity in terms of design and software optimization that keeps the product competitive.
