Pakistan Introduces ‘Beep Pakistan’ Messaging App

Pakistan has announced the launch of its own instant messaging app – Beep Pakistan. The “Beep Pakistan” app has been developed by Pakistan’s Ministry of IT in collaboration with the country’s National Information Technology Board (NITB).

At the launch of Beep Pakistan, Pakistan’s IT Minister Aminul Haque mentioned that the country’s first messaging app is currently under a 30-day trial period. After a successful trial at the government level, the application is also open to the masses after a year.

He also said that Beep Pakistan app includes features like document sharing, secure messaging, high-speed voice, video and conference calls.

According to Haque, the app aims to mitigate potential cyber attacks and ensure that sensitive government communications are better protected.

National Information Technology Board CEO Baber Majid Bhatti said the app will help optimize communication and efficiency in ministries.

“Beep Pakistan is a transformative platform that will revolutionize the way our governments operate through seamless collaboration between ministries, providing data-driven decision-making to policymakers and improved services to citizens” on a secure platform, Bhatti said.

The IT Minister stated that Beep Pakistan stores user data on local servers controlled by the IT Board. This ensures no audio or video leaks. “The security advantage of the app is that its server and source code are in Pakistan, which makes it 100 percent secure,” Haque said.

Meanwhile, Indian security researchers recently raised concerns about the security of the Indian military and the country’s prominent educational institutions such as the IITs and NITs.

They have raised the alarm after revealing a series of cyber attacks carried out by a notorious Pakistani hacking group known as Transparent Tribe.

According to researchers, the Transparent Tribe branch, known as SideCopy, has also been identified as targeting the Indian Defense Organisation. Their modus operandi involves testing a domain that hosts malicious files, which can act as a phishing page.
