iPhone users experiencing app crashing? iOS 17 beta update resolves the issue

Has your iPhone been experiencing frequent crashes of the Threads app after updating to the iOS 17 beta? Are you encountering app crashes specifically when trying to upload images or videos? This issue occurs when creating a new thread or responding with a photo. Fortunately, the problem has recently been resolved.

Meta recently released Threads and released the first update, Threads version 291 (following the original release version 289). The update brings a significant fix that comes at just the right time. While users welcomed this new addition to their social media family, a few concerns surfaced.

Several iPhone users have reported apps crashing when trying to attach images or videos to their messages. The image picker constantly triggers the app to crash when used. However, there is already a temporary workaround for photos – you can simply copy and paste them without any problems. While videos are still out there, you can always use GIFs.

While Threads’ first update doesn’t include support for the iPad or any additional features, it does address the photo selector bug in iOS 17. This is especially useful since Apple has expanded testing of iOS 17 from the developer beta to the public beta. The public beta allows anyone to test iOS 17 without registering as a developer. As a result, a larger number of users are now using iOS 17.

This update brings relief to those who have enjoyed Threads but were previously limited to posting just one pasted photo. Thanks to a bug fix, iOS 17 users can now join the fun by posting up to 10 images in the carousel per post.

Here’s an alternative way to fix the Threads app crashing while loading images until Meta fixes the bug in a future software update:

Method 1: Split into threads

1. Open the Photos app and find the photo you want to send to threads.

2. Tap the Share icon and select the “Share to Threads” option.

3. Add the desired text or additional content to the message thread and tap “Send”.

Method 2: Copy and paste the photo

If you encounter crashes when trying to paste an image while replying to a thread, you can use the copy-paste feature on your iPhone:

1. In the Photos application, find the photo you want to add to the thread reply.

2. Tap the Share button in the lower left corner, then select “Copy Photo”.

3. Return to the threads, tap and hold on the text field to reveal the “Paste” option, and use it to add an image to the reply field.

By following these instructions, you can continue to use Threads without crashing when uploading images. Stay tuned for future software updates from Meta that will fix this issue.
