How one man used OpenAI’s GPT-4 to create a 3D game from scratch

Based on OpenAI’s GPT 3.5 model, ChatGPT made headlines when it was introduced last year. By releasing GPT-4, OpenAI’s next-generation generative AI model, the company is paving the way for new possibilities with the model. As discovered by The Indian Express, Twitter user Javi Lopez has now developed a full-fledged 3D game that bears a striking resemblance to the well-known video game Doom using GPT-4.

Javi points out that while you can create meaningful content, users should look at it realistically and keep expectations in check. To use GPT-4, you also need to subscribe to ChatGPT Plus, which was recently opened for users in India.

“Just ask GPT to create a game in ‘Doom’ style. If you like a concise request, you can ask it to refrain from explaining or adding comments,” Javi said in a tweet.

Next, he pasted the code generated by ChatGPT into an HTML/JavaScript editor and pressed Run. “It’s possible that the first version it offers will be 2d,” Javi said, but to get the code that will become a 3D game, “we’ll just have to ask ChatGPT nicely.”

Javi suggests that while the initial results may seem basic, you can improve the game’s visual aesthetics by asking GPT to include something like “color walls” in the code. And “when there’s enough time, you can add enemies, weapons and other features to improve the game.”

This seems to be just the beginning of what is the tip of the iceberg and the possibilities that GPT-4 offers.

Recently, Microsoft confirmed that the new Bing will be powered by GPT-4. “We’re happy to confirm that the new Bing runs on GPT-4, which we’ve adapted for search,” the company revealed on its blog. So if you already have experience with the new Bing, you’ve already tried the preview version.
