Online shopping scam: Delivery Boy steals 10 iPhones by replacing them with dolls

A delivery manager for an e-commerce company allegedly stole 10 iPhones by replacing them with fake phones on his way to deliver them to a customer here, police said Thursday.

Ravi, the position in charge of Matrix Finance Solution, which delivers the package to Amazon, claimed in his complaint that on March 27, delivery manager Lalit handed over a customer’s package containing 10 iPhones and AirPods from his address.

However, instead of delivering the package, Lalit replaced the iPhones with replicas and sent his brother Manoj to deposit them back with the company, claiming that the customer could not be contacted, Ravi said in his complaint.

The package was opened when it was suspected that the package had been tampered with, and the carrier found the fake phones there, police said.

At the same time, when the customer did not receive his package, he also canceled his order, they said.

An FIR has been registered against Lalit at the Bilaspur police station on Wednesday under sections 420 (cheating) and 408 (breach of trust by an employee) of the Indian Penal Code, they said.

They said efforts are on to nab the accused, who is absconding.
