Unlock the Power of Group Voice Chats: WhatsApp’s New Feature Has You Covered!

Meta-owned instant messaging app WhatsApp is introducing voice chats for large groups on Android and iOS devices, streamlining group communication and allowing group calls to be made silently without interrupting others.

Thanks to this feature, the instant messaging app makes it easier for users to communicate in group chats and introduces a new way to start voice calls by sending silent push notifications without interrupting everyone else in the group.

“After installing the latest versions of WhatsApp for iOS from the App Store and the TestFlight app, as well as the WhatsApp for Android app from the Google Play Store, WhatsApp is rolling out this feature to everyone,” WABetaInfo reported.

A screenshot shared in the report revealed that voice chats bring a completely fresh experience to WhatsApp calls, simplifying connections for everyone later on. Anyone can join their groups voice chat at any time and start talking without calling everyone in the group chat.

If an audio chat remains inactive for 60 minutes, it ends automatically, but participants can start a new audio chat at any time. The reveal of this feature was initially done on Will Cathcart’s official channel and later WhatsApp officially shared the announcement on their channel. It is noteworthy that this feature is widely available on WhatsApp for Android, although the screenshot is taken from the iOS version.

Voice chats offer a significant advantage because they allow calls to be initiated without each group member’s phone ringing. More specifically, when a voice chat is started, each member of the group will discreetly receive a push notification. Those not participating in an ongoing voice chat can observe active participants from the chat header and the Calls tab, allowing them to join or leave the call at any time.

The feature is available for groups with 33 to 128 members. Also, it is currently not available on linked devices. The voice chat feature for large groups is available after installing WhatsApp for iOS from the App Store and WhatsApp for Android from the Google Play Store, and will roll out to more users in the coming days.
