WhatsApp to Introduce Passkey Verification for Account Security

WhatsApp, the popular instant messaging app owned by Meta, has reportedly been working on a password feature for account verification to protect your account with an email address.

“Thanks to the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.17.5 update available on the Google Play Store, we see that WhatsApp is working on password support for a future update to the app,” WABetaInfo reported.

According to the report, the password feature provides users with a simple way to log in securely. A password is a short string of numbers or characters used to verify your identity and acts as a type of security code to ensure that only authorized devices can authenticate.

You don’t need to remember your password because it’s safely stored in Google Password Manager. WhatsApp plans to support this technology for account verification, it added.

Because a passcode uses your fingerprint, face, or screen lock to verify your identity, it improves security by adding an extra layer of protection over traditional methods like PIN codes. In addition, the secure storage of passwords in Google Password Manager ensures convenient usability while maintaining solid protection against unauthorized use.

The passkey feature is under development and will be available in an upcoming update of the app, according to the report.

In related news, WhatsApp has released two new features for video calls on its platform: Screen Share and Landscape mode. According to the Meta-owned platform, this new feature will soon be available on iPhones, Android smartphones and the Windows platform. It is expected to come to all users in the coming days.

Screen sharing allows users to share a live view of their screen during a call. The feature can be launched by clicking on the ‘share’ icon and choosing to share a specific app or share the entire screen. This feature allows users to share documents, photos and videos with available contacts in video calls.
