WhatsApp users who have linked a companion device to their main account will now be able to post status updates using their secondary devices. Here's what we know.News

WhatsApp will soon allow users to share status updates from ‘Companion Devices’.

WhatsApp is an ever-evolving chat app, and Meta ensures that it keeps the experience fresh with functional and quality-of-life improvements for the app’s users. Now this time, WhatsApp is said to be bringing the ability to share status updates using accessories to beta testers, as reported by WABetaInfo.

For the uninitiated, WhatsApp companion devices are secondary devices that you link to your account. They allow you to use the same account on several mobile devices at the same time without an active Internet connection on the main device.

But as good as this feature is, the companion device lacks several features that the main device can achieve, and one of them is sending status updates. Properly; you haven’t been able to send statuses on a partner device until WhatsApp started rolling out the Android beta 2.24.1.4 update.

This means you can now finally send GIFs, pictures and videos – all as status updates – directly to your secondary partner device. This ensures that you consistently get the same WhatsApp experience across all devices, whether it’s your primary or companion device.

However, this update is currently only available to some beta testers of the app, which is version 2.24.1.4 and is available on the Google Play Store. As for the public release, there is currently no word on when we can expect it. But since it’s now entered the beta stage, its official public rollout shouldn’t be too far off.

In other WhatsApp news, the app recently introduced the ability for users to pin their chats, not just to their contacts, but to their main feed. WhatsApp users have long been able to pin contacts to the top of their main feed, but the Meta-owned app now lets them pin chats to one-on-one and group chats.
