Indian Government Issues Major Security Warning for Apple Users: Essential Steps to Take

The Indian government has warned Apple users about a new security issue this week. The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) has called the latest warning a high risk in a January 31 bulletin. According to the Security Agency, users of the Apple Watch, Apple TV, Mac, iPhone and iPad are affected. This risk could allow attackers to access your devices remotely, allowing them to collect confidential information and steal data for ransom.

Apple’s security problem affects these devices

According to the latest CERT-In bulletin, users of the following software versions are affected:

– Apple macOS Monterey versions 12.7.3

– Apple macOS Ventura versions earlier than version 13.6.4

– Apple watchOS versions 10.3

– Apple iOS versions older than 16.7 and iPadOS versions older than 15.8.1

– Apple iOS versions older than 17.0.1 and iPadOS versions older than 16.7.5

– Apple Safari versions 17.3

– Apple’s tvOS versions before 17.3

Apple’s data security risk: how does it affect you?

As noted by CERT-In, Apple products have these vulnerabilities that could allow an attacker to access sensitive data, execute arbitrary code, bypass security restrictions, and gain additional privileges on the target system.

Based on the details highlighted by the security agency, Apple’s latest security risk affects many devices from the iPhone 6 series, iPad Air 2 and even the iPod Touch 7th generation model. So what does CERT-In advise these users to do to protect their data and other personal content from attackers?

You should update your Apple devices to the latest available updates as soon as possible. If your device is limited to the software version listed here, you should consider upgrading to a newer device for security reasons.
