Xiaomi CEO Confirms Replacement of MIUI With ‘HyperOS’, Here’s What Could Be Different
Earlier this month, rumors surfaced suggesting that Xiaomi could eventually replace its MIUI Android operating system with a new and redesigned operating system. Well, it turns out that the speculation was correct as the company has announced the launch of a new operating system called Xiaomi HyperOS; and it is set to debut with the Xiaomi 14 series.
Lei Jun, Xiaomi’s founder and CEO, confirmed the development on X (formerly Twitter). “Today is a historic moment. After years of working together, our new operating system, Xiaomi HyperOS, will make its official debut on the Xiaomi 14 series,” Jun said.

However, it is not clear if the updated operating system would be available for Xiaomi smartphones globally, but Lei Jun has also hinted that HyperOS could also end up on internationally available models when a user asked if the new operating system is coming to international models as well. Jun replied, “Stay tuned,” followed by a smiling face with glasses emoticons. If this is any indication, we may see Xiaomi revamp its entire smartphone lineup in the future, and as speculated, MIUI may no longer be a thing.
Xiaomi is working to “gradually” replace MIUI with the new operating system, so while it’s a guess, it may take some time for Xiaomi to make a complete transition.
It’s also worth noting that we currently don’t know if the new Xiaomi HyperOS will be based on Android at all – considering it was rumored that Xiaomi might end up pulling Huawei and developing a new platform using the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). . But adding Lei Jun’s “stay tuned” comment to X sure makes things interesting. Despite this, more should be clear when the Xiaomi 14 series is released.
